There are many benefits to wearing compression socks and stockings. The most common uses are treating edema or swelling, circulation and vein problems, muscle recovery, preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and anti-embolism.

Mild to moderate compression socks are generally safe for most people, but you should always talk to your doctor first. Your doctor will prescribe the best level of compression to fit your needs.

Medical grade Compression and Edema
Edema can be a bodily response to pregnancy or an injury, but it can also be a symptom of a more severe illness, such as heart failure or kidney disease. Compression socks can reduce pain and discomfort due to swelling.

For more info about edema, check out the articles we wrote on Pregnancy and Edema, Heart disease and edema, and Kidney disease and edema.

Medical Compression and Pregnancy
Mild to moderate compression socks during pregnancy are essential for most women. Pregnancy adds weight, stress on the body, especially on our legs.

Compression garments help minimize swelling, fluid retention, and varicose veins, which are all quite common side-effects of pregnancy. Check with your doctor for recommendations for your needs.

For more info about compression and pregnancy, check out, Compression Socks during Pregnancy.

Medical Compression and Varicose veins
Varicose veins can happen to anyone – the elderly, pregnant women, athletes, and anyone who spends most of their day standing. This condition can cause pain and discomfort and limit your physical activity.

With compression socks, we can improve blood flow and help your body gain more strength.

For more info about varicose veins, check out The Best Compression Stockings for Varicose Veins.

Older Adults

As we age, we are more likes to suffer from,

  • Varicose veins

  • Poor circulation

Compression material helps the blood stay in motion, improving overall life quality. However, you should consult your doctor before purchasing, particularly if you have arterial disease.

For more info about compression for older adults, check out, Why the Elderly wear Compression Socks.

Athletic Performance and Muscle Recovery
Compression socks can help prevent muscle cramps, shin splints, and plantar fasciitis while playing sports, running, or cycling. Compression stockings also help your muscles recover faster afterward. Consult with your doctor for advise.

Medical Compression and Deep Vein Thrombosis
One of the best ways to prevent deep vein thrombosis is by wearing compression socks and walking.

Compression stockings promote healthy blood flow and prevent clots. Doctors recommend medical-grade compression stockings for most patients to prevent DVTs, your doctor will recommend what is best for you.
